NORWEGIAN WOODS / VERSAL FORLAG

-

Everything has a story behind it.  Cities have histories, people have biographies, and houses are drawn and fitted together by the laws of mechanics. But what about a garden? We met Invild Flesland and her husband Olaf Radermacher in their home in the woods a long time ago.  At that time it was their house that was our focus. They have a unique approach to interior design in these days of seemingly enforced minimalism. Without being cluttered, the family’s home is filled with reminders of travels taken, books read, music played, and ideas too strong to be ignored. They have since then turned their attention to the garden. Norwegian Woods is a chronicle of how that garden became a central axis for the family. The book contains concrete tips on how to plan and maintain a garden as well as ideas on how to supplement meals with the freshest possible produce. Mostly, the book just inspires.

NATURLIGVIS / VERSAL FORLAG

-

Despite working on some thirty-plus cookbooks we had never tried our hand at an interior book before. Strange, considering it was in this area the studio got its start.
Written and styled by Kirsten Visdal, Naturligvis explores the trend towards a more organic and natural decorating style as typified by 13 Norwegian homes. The common denominators are a muted color palette and a kind of sustainability philosophy. These are homes on the cutting edge of a trend characterized by a firm grip on the primal materials of home building. Either modern or more traditional, the simplicity of wood grain, stone and Nature’s inspiration shines through.

COOKBOOKS

-

It all started about 20 years ago on a quiet day around lunchtime. Without anything better to do than make a good lunch (but then, what is better than that?), we took a couple of shots of the food before we ate it.  The photos were published, and our careers as cookbook authors and photographers together with Paul Løwe were born. We have made about 30 books since then, mostly for Gyldendal Forlag here in Norway. Those books seem to live their own lives, many are still in print, and if you check the kitchen shelves around here you’re likely to find at least one of them. Titles like Sommermat, Vintermat, Levende Lys and the Helt Enkelt series still have a place in helping people find out what’s for dinner. The books have been translated into eight languages and are available around the world.
